Octurne for Solo Piano

Octurne is a solo piano piece I wrote in the last two weeks of the fall Semester of 2004 at Western Michigan University.  The piece was written for a project to write new piano nocturnes for a student composer concert presented in January of 2005.  The piece is based on the F octatonic scale; a scale consisting of 8 notes instead of the conventional 7 notes of a major or minor scale.  The title of the piece comes from this concept of using the ocatonic scale to write a nocturne (hence the name, “Octurne”).
